Campaign History
The Hikertown Timeline
From founding to the present day — every documented event, enforcement action, report, and campaign milestone in chronological order.
Hikertown Founded
Hikertown is established in the Western Antelope Valley as a waypoint and community hub — long before the Pacific Crest Trail's official designation brought thousands of through-hikers to its door.
Pacific Crest Trail National Scenic Trail Designation
The PCT is officially designated a National Scenic Trail. Hikertown, located at a critical water and rest stop along the Southern California stretch, begins serving as a trail landmark for hikers making the grueling desert crossing.
Western Antelope Valley Community Report Published
Dr. Barney F. Hope, Ph.D. delivers a formal report to Los Angeles County leadership documenting resident concerns about zoning enforcement pressure, energy development, water rights, and rural community impacts in the Western Antelope Valley. Concerns about this area were formally raised to county leadership over a decade ago.
Solar & Energy Development Accelerates
Large-scale solar, wind, and utility corridor development proposals are approved or advanced in the Highway 138 corridor directly surrounding Hikertown. Residents begin documenting land-use changes and their potential impact on the community.
Code Enforcement Actions Begin
Code enforcement notices are issued to Hikertown property. Residents and the campaign are reviewing documents to understand the scope and fairness of the enforcement process. Some documents are currently under review.
Community Begins Organizing
Residents, trail supporters, hikers, and local advocates begin organizing around the preservation of Hikertown. The Save Hikertown campaign takes shape, with a focus on documenting what happened and calling for transparency.
SaveHikertown.com Launches
The public campaign website launches, bringing the story of Hikertown to a national audience. Evidence is organized, the 2011 report is highlighted, and the petition is opened to supporters across the country.
County Vote — Critical Deadline
A key Los Angeles County hearing is scheduled. The campaign is calling on supporters to sign the petition, contact elected officials, and attend or submit public comment before this deadline.
